Personally, it annoys me that half the damage in the game ignores armor. What's the point of wearing it if it doesn't block anything?
However, I don't think they're going to change this.

Which is exactly why they need more melee classes in the game.
Here's what they can do. Make an new melee class like a Cavalier... a shield warrior who uses spears and polearms. Give him armor that's good against holy damage (maybe chaos damage too). That'll throw some variety into the mix and cause people to rethink thier strategies.

I dont think another class should be the answer to this problem...

hm. I like the idea of a class with new armor, not necessarily cavalier. Maybe he should be strong against holy, chaos, shadow, blood/life stealing, much in the same way the ele is strong against fire/water/air/earth. then again, i want any new class.

Holy damage does not ignore armor. If it did, Judge's Insight's turning damage into holy damage then sticking a 10% armor penetration would render the 10% AP a bit... useless.
Most smiting spells ignore damage.
I personally don't really think there is that much wrong with the smiting line, except for people who believe hard-line that monks are purely defensive. I think there's something wrong with the ether renewal part of it giving that much health AND energy (primarily energy, but the health part certainly doesn't help matters much).

Wow, that was a flame filled post.
First thing first: Mesmers own Monks, its as simple as that. If your mesmer sucks, its because you suck at building one. Go get advice from someone who knows how.
Secondly, if Holy Damage ignores armor, why does a Monk's rod or staff do almost no damage even when the damage is marked at Holy. You're mistaking physical damage with spell damage. Elementalist spells are physical damage, or at least most of them are. But Monks, Necros and Mesmers all do Magic Damage, which happens to the person targeted, not the outside physical area of the person. You are attacking at the person's life directly, not his armored body.
Nerfing Holy Damage would not change the spell because Holy Damage doesnt ignore armor. The spell ignores armor. And if you get rid of all spells that ignore armor, 3 classes are going to have nothing but weak damage spells.
And then what? Nerf warriors because they do too much damage compared to most casters? And at the end we have everybody really weak, and everything takes forever to accomplish.
Lets get this straight ok?
Holy, Dark, Light, and Chaos Damage do not ignore armor. There is simply is no armor that has added resistance two these attributes because they are neither physical nor elemental. But they dont ignore armor. If you ever want proof, pick up a Wand that does any one of those types of damage at Max (11-22) and you'll see very quickly that against higher level enemies, you're doing anywhere between 0-8 damage a hit. If any of those types of damage ignored armor, then armor wouldnt be nerfing their damage.

You took it a little more extreme than I originally meant for it, but I see your point.
Well I'm going to concede to skill nerfing then. I was hoping this was an alternative but your post just blew this idea out of the water.
I give up lol
